“This is Helvetica that comes with the Mac today.
I’m wondering why the 8 and the 6 have those elliptical counters and the percent has circles. And the bottom of the Pound sign is so florid, while the 2 and the 5 are so sober. And why the R in the registered symbol is not the same as the R in the alphabet, and why the spacing is all weird.
It’s bewildering.”
Heyy, I was watching Hoefler’s speech on the AIGA Design Conference! He introduced Retina, a typeface that maintained legibility and consistency in appearance through digital and traditional format.
Typography is amazing.
